Caste-based movies - Drawbacks and Consequence
The only constant is change. To move
forward, we have to change, to be in sync with today's time. Likewise, ideas
too undergo change. Yesterday is gone so are the things even precious
associated with yesterday. Ideas too undergo change. One has to be in sync with
today's time to change and impart progressive thinking on society, which are to
be updated whenever newer 'Change' comes about.
Now take caste system for example.
Take the example of any caste. The conclusion is they are not in sync with
changing ideas. The Caste still revere (worship) their leaders and ideas who
are long death, in fact, more than 100 years ago. In some case it is more than
1,000 years. This is more common when we move below the caste ladder.
Takes movies for example, even after
close to 100 years of democracy and a healthy education system in India, the
movies depicts and highlights the age old caste system. Today, education has
brought each and every caste to a certain level which was not there 100 years
ago. But in movies, a upper caste girl or a intermediate caste girl should take
pity on a boy of low caste and teach her English. Today, there is no need to
depict such types of things. There are enough English speaking classes, more
than 1,000s of youtube videos and lakhs of low caste people fluent in English
and working in important position in India and Aboard who do help for free. The
only thing is you have to be ready to learn. When you are ready, automatically
the Guru will appear.
Low caste are always depicted in
movies as poor and in worn out and dirty clothes and always at the mercy of
upper caste or intermediate caste rich people. The country has moved forward so
are the low caste. Equal opportunities exists for everybody. The only thing
that is necessary is hard work. Education is free. Government is doing
everything possible to help all the castes. There are NGOs who help poor
people; and CSR activities, especially, are aimed to raise the standard of
lower caste people.
Low caste people in movies are
always depicted as landless. In these close to 100 years of democracy and a
compassionate British rule before, low caste people have moved to cities
in search of jobs, menial jobs. Now, 4th and 5th generations of low caste
people are well settled in cities. They never had much agriculture
lands. They kept on moving. They settled in slums and now constituent the
largest percentage of slum dwellers in India. There are various schemes the
government has brought in for these people to move to buildings and apartments where they will
get a nice room with own kitchen, bedroom, hall, and toilet. They too can
use their own logic and sense to get a better living standard. But, here again
in movies, the Writer brings in several complications and utopian ideas in
story and the end result the Slums dwellers are in slum only. There is no
inspiration or motivation or ideas in sync with today in the movies.
Like I said in the previous
paragraphs, movie ideas are not in sync with modern ideas. The ideas of
more than 100 years ago and even 1000 years are shown, without taking modern
ideas into consideration. The end result, will be the same. If you want your
caste to progress, show how to progress, instead of age old regressive things.
There is no better than Indian
Constitution, which too keeps on amending its laws taking into consideration
the need of today.
Make caste based movies, write
screen plays which takes the audience to higher level of growth and prosperity
simultaneously entertaining and imparting latest knowledge.
